Water is Wide

Del Sol’s 35th anniversary season celebrates water. Inside our skin, we are mostly water. Our planet is blue with oceans. Cities are shaped by creeks, canals and culverts. Immigrants brave a perilous crossing in search of a new life. Surfers find bliss riding a wave. Discover concert programs, school residencies, and community activations that reconnect us to this life-giving resource.

BELOW THE SURFACE OF DEL SOL’s 35th ANNIVERSARY 

Del Sol didn’t plan to shape our anniversary season around water - we noticed it. All year, we look forward to our annual river trip on the Yampa, the last free-flowing river in the Colorado basin. The river is like a great composition we get to play, guiding our little boats upon this powerfully forward-flowing, ever-changing force. We get to play along and share the journey - introducing new friends to music and places we love. 

Last summer the Yampa wasn’t there. The snowpack in the Colorado Rockies was so low that, by mid-June, the Yampa couldn’t float a boat. 

That’s when we realized to treasure water-music. Our Angel Island Concert Series starts with an early-morning ferry ride across San Francisco Bay, our Joy Project centers around urban creeks and waterways, our recent collaboration with Leilehua Lanzilotti introduced us to the living traditions of the Pacific Voyaging Society.
